'Seems You Too Are Drunk On Power Now': Anna Hazare's Letter To Kejriwal Amid Delhi Excise Policy Row

“Just as there is intoxication of alcohol, in the same way there is intoxication of power. You too have drowned in the intoxication of such power,” Anna Hazare wrote in his letter to Arvind Kejriwal.

New Delhi: Amid the Delhi liquor policy row, social activist Anna Hazare wrote a letter to Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal expressing his disappointment over the incident. In a  letter written to Kejriwal, who was his companion during India Against Corruption movement in 2012, Hazare said that the Aam Aadmi Party which borne out of the movement has alos started “following path of other parties.”

“10 years ago on 18 September 2012, all the members of Team Anna had a meeting in Delhi. At that time, AAP had talked about adopting the political path. But you forgot that forming a political party was not the aim of our movement. At that time there was a belief in the public's mind about Team Anna,” the letter read.

“Team Anna travelled all over the country and it was necessary to do the work of public education. Had such work of public education was done, then such a wrong policy of alcoholism would not have been made anywhere in the country. Whichever party the government belonged to, to force the government to work in the public interest, it was necessary to have a pressure group of like-minded people,” he said.

“Had this been the case, today the situation in the country would have been different and poor people would have benefited. But unfortunately this did not happen. After that AAP, Manish Sisodia and your other comrades formed the party together and entered politics. Seeing the new liquor policy of the Delhi government, it is now known that the party which was formed after losing a historic movement, also started following the path of other parties. This is very sad,” he wrote in the letter.

“Just as there is an intoxication of alcohol, in the same way there is an intoxication of power. You too have drowned in the intoxication of such power,” he added.

Amid the Delhi excise policy row, the CBI on Tuesday searched Delhi Deputy Chief Minister MAnish Sisodia’s bank locker at Punjab National Bank in Ghaziabad, weeks after over 30 locations associated with him were raided by the federal probe agency.
