Andhra Pradesh bars CBI from entering Andhra without permission, Mamata Banerjee welcomes decision

Naidu had warned recently that the religious places in the state were under terrorist attack. He also alleged that anti-social elements from neighbouring states and from Bihar to create law and order problems in the state. He had also charged that the Central government was deriving ways to destabilise his government.

Amravati (AP): In a sensational decision, the Andhra Pradesh government on Friday withdrew the ' General Consent ' orders prohibiting the entry of the CBI officials into the State for any kind of inquiry against the employees and officers of the Central government institutions. This meant the CBI sleuths will have to now seek prior permission before entering the state for official work or carry out operations when directed by a court. The decision was welcomed by West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee. "Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu has done the right thing in saying that he won't allow Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in his state," she said. The government has given authority to the State's Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to initiate any corruption search against the Central government offices, in place of the CBI. The major decision comes after CM Chandrababu Naidu had accused the Central government of misusing the CBI against huis party TDP and other political rivals in Andhra Pradesh . Naidu has been spearheading the ‘save democracy’ campaign by meeting leaders of several political parties in various states urging them to be a part of the non-BJP front. Naidu had warned recently that the religious places in the state were under terrorist attack. He also alleged that anti-social elements from neighbouring states and from Bihar to create law and order problems in the state. He had also charged that the Central government was deriving ways to destabilise his government. The decision perhaps has been taken owing to the internal crisis within the CBI whose top two officials are locked in legal battle over corruption charges. Andhra Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu had recently likened Prime Minister Narendra Modi to an ‘Anaconda’ who has been swallowing the national institutions. “Modi has been swallowing institutions like CBI, RBI and others. How could he be a saviour,” said Ramakrishnudu.
