AMU row: BJP MP Savitri Bai praises Jinnah; calls him 'great leader'

She further added that religion and caste must not be a factor for paying tribute to someone.

New Delhi: After controversy erupted over hanging of Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s picture in Aligarh Muslim University, after it was opposed by various ‘fringe’ groups and BJP leaders; now party MP Savitri Bai praised Jiannah, which has escalated the row further. Speaking to media, Dalit leader and MP Savitri Bai said, “Anyone who has a contribution in getting India freedom must be respected and honoured”. She further added that religion and caste must not be a factor for paying tribute to someone. She also asserted that where one should be focusing on development and growth of Dalits of the country, attention is being diverted by pointing fingers at such “great leaders”. She further re-iterated that Jinnah was a great leader as his picture can also be seen hanging on the walls of Lok Sabha.
