Shah new Home Minister, Rajnath gets Defence Ministry, Sitharaman is Finance Minister; S Jaishankar gets MEA: Complete LIST here

Narendra Modi was on Thursday sworn in as the Prime Minister for a second term helming a 58-member ministry with BJP chief Amit Shah making his debut at the Centre and former foreign secretary S Jaishankar emerging as a surprise pick while party veteran Sushma Swaraj was among the outgoing ministers who found no place.

New Delhi: In Modi 2.0 Cabinet, Amit Shah has been appointed as the Home Minister. Rajnath Singh will now take over the Defence Ministry and Nitin Gadkari will be Minister of Road Transport and Highways. Smriti Irani will take charge as Minister for Women and Child Development. S Jaishankar to be new External Affairs minister. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will retain DoPT, Atomic Energy as well as all important policy issues and portfolios not allocated. Modi was sworn in on Thursday as prime minister for a second term, helming a 58-member team of ministers, including him and BJP president Amit Shah who makes his debut in the Central government. A new Ministry of Jal Shakti has been created and Gajendra Singh Shekhawat will be its minister. Kiren Rijiju today has been appointed as the new Sports Minister who will replace Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore. Pralhad Joshi will be new Parliamentary Affairs Minister and will also get Coal and Mines. Prakash Javadekar gets Information and Broadcasting as well as Environment.  The President of India, as advised by the Prime Minister, has directed the allocation of portfolios among the following members of the Union Council of Ministers - Complete list below: 
  • Narendra Modi:  Prime Minister and also in-charge of Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions; Department of Atomic Energy; Department of Space; and all important policy issues; and all other portfolios not allocated to any minister
