Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday attended the 6th All India Prison Duty Meet (AIPDM) in Gujarat's largest city, Ahmedabad. At the inauguration ceremony, Shah stated: "View with which jails are seen in society needs to be changed," news agency ANI reported.

Highlighting the necessity of prisons, Union Home Minister Shah stated: "Not every person jailed is criminal by nature, sometimes it's circumstances which force their involvement. But it is a necessary process to keep society functional."

At the inauguration of the 6th All India Prison Duty Meet in Ahmedabad, Amit Shah said: "Jail administration is responsible for the re-induction of those who are not natural, born, habitual criminals into society."

The function was attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi. The three-day event is scheduled to draw administration and police department officials from roughly 19 states and union territories.

AIPDM was last held in Ahmedabad in 2007, for the second time.

Earlier in the day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated 4 smart schools in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. "In Ahmedabad city, 22 Anupam Smart schools have been completed & four schools have started today. More than 3200 students will be benefited by these," Shah was quoted by ANI on its official Twitter handle.

At about 7 p.m., the Home Minister will take part in the Curtain Razor of the 36th National Games-2022 and the Closing Ceremony of the 11th Khel Mahakumbh at TransStadia, Kankaria.

From September 27 to October 10, Gujarat will host the 36th National Games, officially known as National Games Gujarat 2022.
