Amit Shah Counters Stalin’s Delimitation Claims, Says 'PM Assured No Reduction In Southern States’ LS Seats'
Amit Shah asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has clearly stated that no state in the south will see a reduction in its parliamentary representation.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday dismissed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin’s concerns over the potential loss of Lok Sabha seats for southern states following delimitation, asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has clearly stated that no state in the south will see a reduction in its parliamentary representation.
TN CM Stalin had earlier expressed concerns that Tamil Nadu could lose eight Lok Sabha seats due to delimitation, which is expected to be based on population data. He argued that southern states, including Tamil Nadu, have successfully implemented family planning programs, leading to population control, and should not be penalized for their developmental achievements.
Addressing the people in Coimbatore, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, as per IANS, "...Sometimes it feels as if DMK has let all the corrupts in the society join DMK through a membership drive... MK Stalin and his son are raising several issues to deviate from the real issues. Today, they are going to have a meeting regarding delimitation. PM Modi had made it clear that even after delimitation, seats of none of the states of South will be decreased..."

Highlighting the BJP’s recent electoral successes, Shah expressed confidence in the party’s prospects in Tamil Nadu. “In 2024, we formed a BJP government in Odisha and an NDA government in Andhra Pradesh. Our victories in Haryana, Maharashtra, and Delhi have shown people’s trust in us. We will end 2026 by forming an NDA government in Tamil Nadu,” he said.
Reitrating BJP's stance on delimitation, Tamil Nadu BJP president Annamalai stated that Union Home Minister Amit Shah has clarified the delimitation process, emphasizing that when the number of seats increases, it will be a proportional increase for all states. He assured that if and when delimitation takes place, it will follow a pro-rata approach, ensuring that no state loses its current representation.
