On Cam: Amarnath Yatra Pilgrims Jump Off Moving Bus After Brakes Fail In J&K; 10 Injured

Noticing the pilgrims jumping out of the moving vehicle, the army troops and police personnel acted swiftly and managed to stop the bus from plunging into the stream

At least 10 people were injured when they jumped out of a moving bus on National Highway 44 in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district after the driver lost control of the vehicle due to brake failure. The bus was carrying pilgrims returning from the Amarnath yatra to Punjab's Hoshiarpur.

However, a major tragedy was averted as the bus was timely stopped by the army and police personnel.

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, where many pilgrims can be seen jumping out of the moving bus.

Noticing the pilgrims jumping out of the moving vehicle, the army troops and police personnel acted swiftly and managed to stop the bus from plunging into the stream by placing stones beneath the tyres of the vehicle.

According to the Ministry of Defence, "The jawans of the Indian Army along with JK Police attempted to slow down and finally stop the bus from plunging into a gorge by placing stones beneath the tyres of the vehicle."

The army’s Quick Reaction Teams along with an ambulance reached the scene and provided medical assistance and first aid to all the injured persons, the officials said.

As per officials, the bus was carrying 40 pilgrims. The driver failed to stop the vehicle on reaching Nachlana near Banihal due to the failure of its brakes.

"At least 10 pilgrims, including three women and a child, were hurt when several of the bus occupants jumped out of the moving bus," the officials said.

Meanwhile, in another incident of road-related accident, the cleaner of a school bus carrying 36 students and teaching staff died on the spot after it collided with a lorry in Andhra Pradesh's Nellore district, police said on Tuesday.

Several students were also injured in the mishap. The accident occurred when the truck hit the school bus from behind, causing it to overturn, the official said.
