Air India Plane Crash Investigators Download Data From 'Black Boxes'

Following the Ahmedabad Air India plane crash, investigators have successfully downloaded data from the recovered black boxes (CVR and FDR).

In a major breakthrough in the Ahmedabad Air India plane crash, the investigators have downloaded the data from the black boxes recovered from the crash site and further analysis is underway, said the Civil Aviation Ministry in a statement on Thursday.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Ministry of Civil Aviation confirmed that the investigation is being carried out in accordance with international norms. The AAIB constituted the investigation team on 13 June, just a day after the crash, and has begun the process of extracting and analysing critical data from the aircraft’s black boxes.

The probe team is headed by GVG Yugandhar, Director General of AAIB, and includes key experts such as an aviation medicine specialist, an Air Traffic Control (ATC) officer, and officials from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB)—the United States’ premier transportation investigation agency. The involvement of the NTSB comes as per international aviation protocols, as the aircrInvestigators are now examining data from the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) and the Flight Data Recorder (FDR)—critical tools in reconstructing the final moments of the ill-fated flight. According to the ministry, the analysis aims to piece together the chain of events that led to the crash and identify contributing factors.

“This thorough investigation is focused on enhancing aviation safety and ensuring such tragic occurrences are prevented in the future,” the ministry said.
