New Delhi: Police arrested four members of National Students' Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Congress, for allegedly creating a ruckus outside the residence of BJP president JP Nadda in New Delhi on Wednesday, news agency IANS reported. According to the report, as a mark of protest against the newly launched Agnipath scheme, around a dozen NSUI members allegedly attacked the residence of Nadda and threw burning cloth over the security room and entrance of the house.
The arrested NSUI members are Jagdeep Singh (National Delegate, NSUI), Sarvottam Rana (Chandigarh State General Secretary), Pranav Pandey (National Coordinator, NSUI) and Vishal (General Secretary, NSUI).
The incident happened around 4.30pm when around 8-12 protestors gathered outside Nadda's residence and started raising slogans against the government over the new military recruitment plan.
"After some time, the protesters became aggressive; they wrapped two khaki shorts on a wooden stick and set them on fire. Thereafter, they threw the burning shorts over the security room and at the gate of the house but their attempt was thwarted by the alert staff on duty," IANS quoted Special Commissioner of Police (Law & Order), Sagar Preet Hooda as saying.
Acting on it, a police team was constituted to investigate the matter, and in the course of its probe, the CCTV footages of the area were examined.
"It was captured in the footage that about 10-12 people had come in two vehicles which were found to be registered at Rohtak, Haryana, and Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh," the Special CP said.
The officer said that during investigation, it was found the agitators were NSUI members and several raids were conducted to apprehend the people involved.
He added, “One Innova car used by the accused persons has been recovered. The other co-accused have also been identified and efforts are on to apprehend them.”
A case has also been registered under the relevant sections of IPC at the Tughlak Road police station, the officer said.
Meanwhile, NSUI chief Neeraj Kundan alleged the police of deliberately adding non-bailable sections due to which four members were sent to Tihar Jail.
"If the NSUI office-bearers and students are not released, the government should be prepared to face the students' outrage," Kundan said.
