After Rafale Verdict, Amit Shah Tears Into Congress; Rahul Gandhi Says SC Opened Door For Investigation
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president, in a series of tweets, hit out at the Opposition and said that the judgement delivered by the top court has proved that the disruption of Parliament over the Rafale fighter aircraft deal was a 'sham'.
New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday termed Supreme Court's verdict on Rafale Aircraft deal as a befitting reply to the leaders and parties who rely on 'malicious and baseless' campaigns and also sought an apology from them. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president, in a series of tweets, hit out at the Opposition and said that the judgement delivered by the top court has proved that the disruption of Parliament over the Rafale fighter aircraft deal was a 'sham'.
"Now, it has been proved that disruption of Parliament over Rafale was a sham. The time could have been better utilised for the welfare of people. After today's rebuke from SC, Congress and its leader, for whom politics is above national interest must apologise to the nation," Shah tweeted.
The minister further said that Supreme Court has yet again reaffirmed the Narendra Modi government's credentials as a government which is transparent and corruption free. "Supreme Court’s decision to dismiss the review petition on Rafale is a befitting reply to those leaders and parties who rely on malicious and baseless campaigns. Today’s decision, yet again, reaffirms Modi sarkar’s credentials as a govt which is transparent and corruption free," he wrote.
Earlier in the day the Supreme Court dismissed a review petition seeking a probe into the Rafale deal. Justice S.K. Kaul while reading the judgement said that the review petition is without merit. The top court dismissed a plea seeking lodging of an FIR to probe the Rafale deal inked with Dassault Aviation. The court also closed contempt proceedings initiated against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and said that being an important political person, Rahul must remain more careful in future. However, Reacting to top court's judgement, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said the Supreme Court verdict has opened a 'huge door' into investigation of the 'Rafale scam' and demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the fighter jet deal. Gandhi tweeted: "Justice Joseph of the Supreme Court has opened a huge door into investigation of the RAFALE scam. An investigation must now begin in full earnest. A Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) must also be set up to probe this scam."Supreme Court’s decision to dismiss the review petition on #Rafale is a befitting reply to those leaders and parties who rely on malicious and baseless campaigns.

The Congress party also said the BJP has been celebrating the Rafale verdict without studying the judgement properly and added that through its verdict the Supreme Court had "opened the gates for investigation" of the fighter jet deal by agencies. A contempt proceeding was initiated against Rahul Gandhi for his remark "Chowkidar Chor Hai", attributing it to the Prime Minister. A bench of Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and Justices SK Kaul and KM Joseph said that Rahul Gandhi, being a person holding a place of importance in the political spectrum, should have been more careful before attributing to the top court certain things which were not part of the order.Justice Joseph of the Supreme Court has opened a huge door into investigation of the RAFALE scam.
