After Nivar, Another Catastrophic Cyclone Named 'Burvei' To Hit Tamil Nadu Coast On Dec 4

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday said that a cyclone is very likely to hit Tamil Nadu on December 4.

Chennai: Just a week after the deadly cyclone Nivar hit the coast of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry destructing crores worth of crops and properties, the Burevi cyclone is likely to hit the state o December 4. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday said that a cyclone is very likely to hit Tamil Nadu on December 4.  According to the IMD, the deep depression in the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify further into a cyclonic storm by late Tuesday night this is likely to hit the southern state.

The IMD’s warning division stated that the cyclonic storm is expected to cross the Sri Lanka coast close to Trincomalee during the evening or night of December 2, with a wind speed of 75-85 kilo meters per hour gusting to 95 kmph. “It is very likely to move nearly westwards thereafter, emerge into Gulf of Mannar and adjoining Comorin area on 3rd December morning. It would then move nearly west-southwestwards and cross south Tamil Nadu coast between Kanyakumari and Pamban around the early morning of 4th December,” the warning division said.

The IMD in view of the upcoming cyclonic storm that is brewing in the Bay of Bengal and is likely to hit the Indian coasts in December issued a red-color coded warning for the southern states of the country including Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The warning said that these areas are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall due to the upcoming storm. The cyclone Nivar, which hit the coasts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry last week battered the region. As part of the rescue operation, as many as 2.3 lakh people were evacuated from the coastal and were housed in the cyclone shelters. While three people from Tamil Nadu and one from Andhra Pradesh died due to the cyclone. The cyclone uprooted more than a thousand trees and destroyed crops and property worth Rs 400 crores.
