ABP Shikhar Sammelan: Rajnath Singh Says Arvind Kejriwal Should Resign On Moral Grounds

ABP Shikhar Sammelan: Rajnath Singh said that the society runs not only on laws and rules but moral values as well while responding to the question of Arvind Kejriwal retaining CM post in jail.

Union minister Rajnath Singh on Friday took a dig at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal who is currently in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case linked to the alleged irregularities in the excise policy scam saying he should resign on moral grounds. While in jail, the Delhi High Court said that there is no scope for judicial interference in the matter seeking removal of Arvind Kejriwal from the position of Delhi Chief Minister.

Singh said that the society does not run only on rules and laws but on some moral values as well, while speaking at ABP Shikhar Sammelan.

On being asked about Kejriwal retaining the CM post from jail, Singh said, "Generally what people say is that there is no restriction as such but I believe there is something called moral values as well, and India follows that ethics where if anyone puts a blame the person leaves his post and doesn't accept it till he gets free from it."

"A blame was put on Lal Krishna Advani and he had resigned from the membership of the Parliament and said that till he does not get free of the accusation he won't accept the post," said the Defence minister.

"Laws and rules are not everything, moral values also have an importance in indian society and we need to follow them," he added.

The judgment by Delhi High Court came after the Bharatiya Janata Party demanded Kejriwal's resignation following his arrest.

The court dismissed a PIL moved by one petitioner to remove Kejriwal from the CM post. The court, however, said that if there is a constitutional failure then a President or LG will act on it. The court cannot ask for imposition of President's rule.
