ABP-CVoter Survey: AAP To Emerge As Single-Largest Party In Punjab, BJP Set For Worst Performance In Decades

ABP C-Voter Survey for Punjab Election 2022: The survey reveals that the vote share and number of seats of AAP will increase in Punjab in comparison to the previous state polls held in 2017.

ABP C-Voter Survey for Punjab Election 2022: Amid the ongoing political crisis and protest by farmers over the three farm laws, Punjab is all set for the much-awaited Assembly elections slated to take place in early 2022.

ABP News along with CVoter conducted a survey to gauge the mood of people in the poll-bound state. As per the survey, Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is most likely to emerge as the single-largest party in Punjab.

The survey, conducted in early November 2021, projects that the vote share and number of seats of AAP will increase in Punjab in comparison to the last elections held in 2017.

AAP is likely to emerge as the single-largest party with 47-53 seats in the 117-member Punjab Assembly, followed by the ruling Congress (42-50 seats) and the Shiromani Akali Dal (16-24 seats).

Meanwhile, the survey further revealed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is staring at its worst performance in recent decades in Punjab, which could be due to the resentment among farmers over the new laws and loss of alliance with the SAD.

The saffron party is likely to win 0-1 seat, the ABP-CVoter survey noted.

In terms of vote share, AAP's figures will go up from 23.7 per cent in 2017 to 36.5 per cent next year.

The survey also predicted that both vote share and the number of seats of the ruling Congress will decrease. Congress' vote share will decrease from 38.5 per cent in 2017 to 34.9 per cent in 2022.

The number of seats for SAD will marginally increase despite decrease in vote share, the survey said.

SAD will witness 4.6 per cent decrease in vote share from 25.2 per cent in the last polls to 20.6 per cent in 2021. However, its seat count is likely to increase from 15 last time to 16-24 in 2021, the survey said.

The BJP, which is facing farmers' ire in the state, is likely to end up with 0-1 seat in the Punjab Assembly, after winning three seats last time. The saffron party's vote share is also projected to decrease from 5.4 per cent in 2017 to 2.2 per cent in 2021, the survey said.
