90 Bharat Gaurav Train Passengers Suffer Food Poisoning, Railways Reacts

The train took an emergency stop at the Pune railway station in Maharashtra on Tuesday evening, where doctors attended to all the passengers and provided them with necessary treatment.

New Delhi: At least 90 passengers onboard the Bharat Gaurav Yatra Special package train travelling from Chennai to Palitana in Gujarat suffered from food poisoning after consuming dinner provided by IRCTC's catering contractor, railway officials said on Wednesday.

The train took an emergency stop at the Pune railway station in Maharashtra on Tuesday evening, where doctors attended to all the passengers and provided them with necessary treatment, reported news agency PTI.

The passengers complained of nausea, loose motions, and headache, Central Railway's chief public relations officer Dr Shivraj Manaspure told the news agency.

Manaspure stated that the 'Bharat Gaurav' train was privately booked by a group for a religious function at Palitana in Gujarat.

He said that the group had procured the food privately and it was not supplied by the Railways or the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).

"Passengers had food through their private source. These food items were not supplied by Railway staff. All passengers were given treatment and are in normal condition after treatment. No hospitalization was required, they all continued their journey further on the same train," ANI reported quoting the Railway PRO.

"Around 80 to 90 passengers from a coach complained of food poisoning between Solapur and Pune. They complained of nausea, loose motions and headache," the official said.

At Pune station, a team of doctors attended to all the passengers and provided them treatment on board, he said.

"The train departed after 50 minutes. The condition of all the passengers was stable," the official said, reported PTI.
