700 Civilians Detained, Booked Under PSA Ahead Of Amit Shah's Kashmir Visit: Mehbooba Mufti's Sensational Claim

The PDP supremo said “such oppressive steps further vitiate an already tense atmosphere”.

New Delhi: Launching a vitriolic attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday said 700 civilians were detained in Jammu and Kashmir and booked under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit.

The PDP supremo said “such oppressive steps further vitiate an already tense atmosphere”.

“Instead prior to his visit 700 civilians were detained, booked under PSA & many shifted to jails outside Kashmir. Such oppressive steps further vitiate an already tense atmosphere. ‘Normalcy acrobatics’ are in full swing while reality is denied & obfuscated,” she tweeted.

Continuing her outburst, the PDP chief said Jammu and Kashmir has been thrown into chaos post abrogation of Article 370.

“HM inaugurating international flights from Srinagar & laying foundation of new medical colleges isn’t new. Half a dozen medical colleges were sanctioned by UPA gov & are functional now. Post Article 370 abrogation & an engineered crisis, J&K has been thrown into chaos,” Mehbooba tweeted.

“CBMs such as lifting the siege that J&K has been put under since 2019, releasing prisoners, ending the harassment people here face on a daily basis, taking tangible steps to revive the economy esp horticulture would have provided a sense of relief,” she wrote on the micro-blogging platform.

Earlier in the day, the Union Home Minister Amit Shah today reviewed the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the steps needed to be taken to combat terrorism in the valley.

Shah reviewed the security scenario at a meeting held at Raj Bhavan in Srinagar.

The Home Minister, who reached Srinagar this morning, later virtually interacted with the members of different youth clubs of the valley.

Addressing the gathering, Shah said the youth of Jammu and Kashmir should contribute to the development of the Union Territory.

Asserting that terrorism has reduced in Jammu and Kashmir and stone pelting has become invisible, he assured that strict action will be taken against those who want to ruin peace of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Home Minister’s visit comes in the wake of spate of recent terror attacks on civilians, particularly non-local labourers and minorities.

This is his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 earlier in 2019.
