5 things you must have not known about Snap CEO Evan Spiegel
New Delhi: Evan Spiegel is drawing heavy criticism for his alleged disparaging comments on India and Spain. His statement came into light after a former Snapchat employee Anthony Pompliano had filed a lawsuit against against Snap Inc., which mentioned that Spiegel had made a statement in 2015 that Snapchat is "only for rich people" and that he does not "want to expand into poor countries like India and Spain.
The comments were good enough to provoke Indians and even celebrities who tweeted with hashtags #boycottsnapchat #IndiaBansSnapchat. The outcome of this was Indians globally rating the messaging app poorly on both Google Play Store and Apple’s App store. The instant image sharing application’s ratings dropped to one star on the app store. Anonymous Indian hackers also have claimed to have leaked database of 1.7 million Snapchat users.

- US based internet entrepreneur Evan Thomas Spiegel was born on June 4, 1990. He is the co-founder and CEO of the American multinational technology and social media company Snap Inc., which he created (as Snapchat Inc. in 2011) with Bobby Murphy and Reggie Brown while they were students at Stanford University.
- Spiegel is engaged to one of the most famous models on the planet: Miranda Kerr. The two started dating in 2015. They first met at a Louis Vuitton dinner in New York in 2014 and the love story blossomed. The couple got engaged on July 20, 2016. Before he began dating Miranda Kerr, he was linked to Taylor Swift.
- Spiegel is said to have a headstrong personality and necessarily arrogant in order to drive the company. In 2013, he turned down a $3 billion cash acquisition offer from Facebook that would have personally netted him $750 million.
- According to Forbes, Spiegel was the youngest self-made billionaire in the world before Stripe cofounder John Collison, who is two months his junior, joined the three comma club in November 2016 along with his brother Patrick Collison when Stripe raised funding at a $9.2 billion valuation. The Snapchat and Stripe cofounders are the only self-made billionaires in the world under the age of 30 which is quite an achievement.
- Spiegel drives a Ferrari and has attained the license to fly a helicopter. Spiegel's stake alone in Snap is worth $4.5 billion. He was reportedly was forced to apologise when misogynistic emails he wrote during his time at Stanford were made public.
