2 Smugglers Held With Drugs In J&K's Kupwara District
Two drug smugglers were arrested during the intervening night of February 23 and 24 2023 from Jammu And Kashmir's Kupwara district and narcotics substance was recovered from them.
New Delhi: In another major success against the drug smugglers in Jammu And Kashmir’s Kupwara district, two more smugglers were arrested during the intervening night of February 23 and 24 2023 and narcotics substance was recovered from them.
According to ABP News sources, a total of 5 packets of heroine-like narcotics substance weighing 4.588 Kilograms were recovered from the Karnah area of the Kupwara district in two separate incidents, based on specific input developed by local police
In the first case, based on specific input about narcotics smuggling in the Taad area, a case FIR No.17/2023 U/S 8/21-29 NDPS Act was registered in Police Station Karnah area.
During the investigation, one suspect namely Farooq Ahmad Shah son of Raqeeb Hussain Shah, a resident of Panjatara Karnah was held for questioning. Following his confession and disclosure, Kupwara Police along with Army unit 06 JAK Rifles recovered 03 packets of heroine-like narcotics weighing 2.674 Kg (with packing) from a hiding place near his house in presence of the Executive Magistrate.
The person was arrested and further investigation into the case is going on. More arrests in the case are expected.
In another similar incident, a case FIR No. 18/2023 U/S 8/21-29 NDPS Act was registered in Police Station Karnah based on a specific input. During the investigation, a suspect namely Raja Aftab alias Babu son of Raja Ghulam Akbar, resident of Teethwal was detained for questioning.
Based on his confession, 2 packets of heroine-like narcotics substance weighing about 1.914 kgs (with packing) were recovered by Kupwara Police along with Army unit 06 JAK Rifles. The recovery was done in the presence of the Executive Magistrate near Aftab’s house at Teetwal village in Jammu and Kashmir. He has been arrested and further investigation is going on.
According to the preliminary investigation, it has surfaced that both persons are hardcore narcotic smugglers and had received these consignments from across the LoC to promote drug addiction to earn quick money and to further the cause of terrorism in Jammu And Kashmir.
Aftab’s brother Zahoor, who is residing in POJK after illegally crossing the LoC in the past is suspected to be supplying the narcotics to his brother whereas his other brother is already facing trial in a narcotics smuggling case registered by Police Station Nagrota Jammu in the year 2018.
Farooq Shah is also in close contact with POJK-based handlers in this illicit trade since the past quite some time.
