New Delhi: Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Humayun Tomb are among the 100 heritage monuments illuminated in tricolour on Thursday to mark the remarkable feat of India achieving 100 crore Covid-19 vaccination milestone.

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) lighted up 100 of its heritage monuments in colours of the national flag.

Around 17 Unesco World Heritage Sites including the Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Humayun Tomb, Tughlaqabad Fort, Purana Qila, Fatehpur Sikri Agra, Ramappa Temple, Hampi, Dholavira (Gujarat), ancient Leh Palace; Currency Building and Metcalf Hall in Kolkata; Khajuraho temples (MP), and Golconda Fort in Hyderabad will be illuminated in tricolour, an official release informed.

Delhi: Humayun’s Tomb illuminated in colours of Tricolour this evening

Bhubaneswari Temple in Rajnagar and the Indian Council of Medical Research building in the national capital were also illuminated in colours of the Tricolour as part of the celebrations.

The event is a tribute to health professionals, frontline workers, scientists, vaccine manufacturers and the citizens of the country who bravely fought the pandemic, said officials. It is a part of actions taken to mark the landmark achievement across the country.

Here is the list of 100 monuments illuminated as a part of this exercise.

The cumulative Covid-19 vaccine doses administered in the country surpassed the 100-crore milestone on Thursday. 

Around 75 per cent of India’s all eligible adult population has been administered at least the first dose and around 31 per cent has received both the doses of the vaccine.

President Ram Nath Kovind & More Congratulate

Meanwhile, wishes poured in from all quarters including political leaders to the medical fraternity. President Ram Nath Kovind congratulated the nation on this history day.
 
"All the citizens have together crossed the milestone of 100 crore vaccinations. India has presented a new example of self-reliance before the world. I congratulate all the citizens for this achievement," President Kovind tweeted.

In a tweet, Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya congratulated the country on achieving the feat and said it was the result of the able leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

AIIMS director Dr Randeep Guleria also expressed his happiness over the achievement. "Historic moment for India to complete 1 billion doses, not only in terms of numbers but also because all doses were manufactured here... It will give a new boost to those not vaccinated. This achievement proves that vaccine is safe, effective," said Guleria, as quoted by ANI.
 
In fact, the World Health Organisation and the leadership of Israel, the US and Sri Lanka also congratulated India after the nation scripted history on Thursday with the cumulative Covid-19 vaccine doses administered in the country surpassing the 100-crore milestone.

Taking to Twitter, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi, scientists, health workers and people of India on their "efforts to protect the vulnerable populations from COVID-19 and achieve vaccine equity targets".

"Congratulations to @narendramodi on leading India's successful COVID-19 vaccination campaign that has now administered more than 1 billion vaccines to the Indian people, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett tweeted on Thursday.

"These life-saving vaccines are helping us all defeat the global pandemic, he added. India and Israel have agreed to mutually recognise each other's vaccination certificates in order to ease travel.
