Hyundai Creta 2018 vs Renault Captur: Real-World Performance Comparison

The updated Creta ticks all the right boxes on paper but how good is it when it comes to real world performance? We pit it against its French rival to find out

Hyundai Creta 2018 vs Renault Captur: Real-World Performance Comparison

The Renault Captur and the Hyundai Creta compact SUVs were closely matched in terms of features until the latter received a facelift in May 2018. But when it comes to the engine and transmission, the Creta facelift remains unchanged. Now, the two aren’t really very close in terms of on-paper numbers, but the real world test figures might throw a few surprises. So, let’s compare the the top-spec Creta with the 1.6-litre CRDi diesel engine with the Renault Captur powered by the 1.5-litre K9K unit.

Specifications and tested fuel efficiency

15.50 kmpl/21.1kmpl

The specifications reveal that the Creta is the powerful and torquier than the Captur by 18PS and 25Nm, respectively. But it drops back on the city fuel efficiency by a small margin. On to the acceleration numbers then.

Acceleration and Roll-Ons

0-100kmph

30-80kmph (3rd gear)

40-100kmph (4th gear)

Hyundai Creta

11.56s

Difference

2.41s (Captur slower)

0.16s (Creta slower)

2.02s (Creta slower)

The Creta’s bigger engine delivers more power compared to the Captur’s 1.5-litre unit and it’s faster off the line too, reaching a 100kmph from standstill in under 11s. But when it comes to in-gear acceleration, it’s the Captur that shines. While being pushed from 40kmph to 100kmph in fourth gear, a situation that you’d generally encounter on a highway run, the Captur comes out stronger leaving the Creta behind by a considerable margin of 2 seconds. It’s even quicker while picking up speed from 30kmph in the third gear too. Also Read: Hyundai Offers In June

Renault Captur

26.26m

Both the Hyundai Creta and the Renault Captur get disc brakes up front and drums at the rear. But it's again the Captur that delivers a knockout blow to the Creta with a shorter stopping distance. The difference in stopping distance while braking from 100kmph to a dead stop is just 1.76 metre. However, that might just be enough to avoid a collision.
