Hero Continues To Lead Two-Wheeler Sales

The month of May 2018 ended on a positive note as major two-wheeler manufacturers posted strong growth in sales figures over the same month last year.

Hero Continues To Lead Two-Wheeler Sales

Hero MotoCorp remains atop the two-wheeler sales chart in India, registering an 11 per cent growth with 7 lakh units sold. This is a lakh more than what was achieved in the same month last year. The company is still unbeaten in the entry level two-wheeler segment in India, and with the recently launched Xtreme 200, Hero MotoCorp intends to achieve the same streak in the competitive 200cc segment.

Hero Continues To Lead Two-Wheeler Sales

India’s second largest two-wheeler manufacturer, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI), concluded the month of May with a sale of 5.5 lakh units. Motorcycles continued to grow at 8 per cent from 1.76 lakh units in the corresponding year to 1.91 lakh units last month.

However, the scooter segment is still the breadwinner for Honda and attributes to a major chunk of their sales. The Honda Activa is still the best selling scooter, making up for 51 per cent of the total scooter sales in India.

Hero Continues To Lead Two-Wheeler Sales

The Hosur-based two-wheeler manufacturer sold 309,865 units overall, registering a growth of 10 per cent over last year. Majority of the sales can be accredited to the TVS Jupiter which is the second best-selling scooter in India after the Activa.

 

Royal Enfield 

Hero Continues To Lead Two-Wheeler Sales

Royal Enfield posted a growth of 23 per cent, selling over 74,000 units in May 2018 as opposed to 60,000 units sold last year. The Classic 350, Bullet 350 and the Thunderbird 350 are major contributors for Royal Enfield. The company will enter the premium segment with its 650 twins, the Interceptor and Continental GT which are expected to be launched sometime later this year.

 

Suzuki Motorcycle

Hero Continues To Lead Two-Wheeler Sales

Suzuki Motorcycles India recorded its highest monthly sales with over 53,000 units being sold domestically against 38,923 units sold in the same month last year. The company posted a steady growth of 36.59 per cent. The Suzuki Access continues to be the top selling scooter, followed by the Suzuki Intruder and the Gixxer. The manufacturer also has plans of rolling out the Suzuki Burgman Street, a maxi-styled scooter.
