From Being The Youngest MP To Rajasthan Deputy CM, Sachin Pilot Decides To Get Domineering Position In Congress
Sachin Pilot became the youngest legislator at the age of 26, and later won the 2018 Legislative Assembly elections to become the deputy chief minister of Rajasthan.
New Delhi, Jul 13: As the reports became rife with the Rajasthan deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot drifting away from the Congress to join the opposition, it brought the focus on the young leader, who has held the position in the state since 2018. In a span of two days, the state politics intensified with Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot and his deputy Sachin Pilot at loggerheads, while the former accusing BJP of trying to destabilise the state government by poaching MLAs. The issue which is at the core of the state politics is centered on the post of PCC Chief as Gehlot Camp wants that 'One Leader One Post' formula to be implemented in Rajasthan. Currently, Sachin Pilot is heading the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee besides holding the Deputy CM post.
Here is more about the leader who rose to prominence in state politics.
- Sachin Pilot is the son of the late Congress leader Rajesh Pilot. Rajesh Pilot was a Squadron Leader who served in Indian Air Force and later joined politics. The young scion of the family Sachin Pilot was born in Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh.
- He has completed higher education from St. Stephens College, University of Delhi, and attained MBA from Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania, USA.
- Before plunging into politics, the youngest politician worked with the Delhi Bureau of the British Broadcasting Corporation and with US firm General Motors for two years.
- Sachin Pilot joined the politics after being elected to 14th Lok Sabha. He then remained a Member, Committee on Home Affairs from 2004-2009. He was the youngest legislator at the age of 26. In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, Sachin Pilot defeated the Bharatiya Janta Party’s Kiran Maheshwari and emerged a winner from Ajmer. In 2012, he became the Minister of Corporate Affairs during the second term of the Manmohan Singh government.
- Later in the 2018 Legislative Assembly elections, Pilot won the Tonk seat, after defeating Yunus Khan. At that time it was expected that the young leader who catapulted the Congress to win in the state election would be made the chief minister. However, on 17 December 2018, he became the Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan under Ashok Gehlot .
- The young leader is married to Sara Abdullah, who is the daughter of Farooq Abdullah, chairman of Jammu & Kashmir National Conference and former chief minister of J&K. They have sons named Aaran and Vehaan.
- Pilot also became the first minister to be commissioned as an officer in the Territorial Army fulfilling his long desire to follow in his father's footsteps who was part of the armed forces.
- The young leader has a deep interest in flying light aircraft, watching movies besides plays and travelling.
