Black Day: Heavy Security At Singhu Border As Farmers Mark 6 Months Of Protest Against Farm Laws

Delhi Police has urged people not to hold gatherings due to the COVID situation and the ongoing lockdown and said it is keeping a tight vigil to deal with any situation at the protest sites on the city's borders.

New Delhi: Heavy security has been deployed at Singhu border around the national capital in wake of 'Black Day' being observed by farmers to mark six months of their protest against the three farm bill.

Delhi Police has urged people not to hold gatherings due to the COVID situation and the ongoing lockdown and said it is keeping a tight vigil to deal with any situation at the protest sites on the city's borders.

This comes as the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), a union of 40 farmers' outfits, has issued a call for ‘black day’ to mark six months of the ongoing agitation.

Marking the protest, Rakesh Tikait on Wednesday said, "We're also carrying the tricolour. It has been 6 months now, but Govt is not listening to us. So farmers are putting up black flags. It'll be done peacefully. We're following COVID protocols. Nobody is coming here. People are putting up flags wherever they are."

The BKU leader had earlier said, “we will put up black flags. There will be no crowding or public meeting. Nobody is marching to Delhi. The people will put up the flags wherever they are. It’s been six months now, the government hasn’t taken back the black laws,” Th

Twelve major opposition parties have extended their support to the protest call made by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha to observe countrywide protest.

Since November 2020, thousands of farmers mostly from Punjab, Haryana and Western Uttar Pradesh, have been camping at three Delhi border points, demanding the three farm laws be repealed.

So far, 11 rounds of talks between 40 farm leaders and the government have failed to break the deadlock over the three laws. The last round was on January 22nd. There has been no talks between the two sides since January 26th when the farmers' tractor rally in the national capital turned violent.
