Earthquake Of Magnitude 5.3 Strikes East Pokhara In Nepal

An earthquake of magnitude 5.3 on the Richter scale struck 35 km East of Pokhara in Nepal at around 5:42 AM on Wednesday morning.

Kathmandu: An earthquake of magnitude 5.3 on the Richter scale struck 35 km East of Pokhara in Nepal on Wednesday morning. The quake took place around 5:42 AM Nepal (Local time), 113 KM North West of Kathmandu.

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) confirmed the development. In an official statement on Twitter, the EMSC said, "Felt #earthquake (#bhuukmp) M5.3 strikes 113 km NW of #Kathmandu (#Nepal) 10 min ago."

Dr. Lok Bijay Adhikari, Chief Seismologist at National Earthquake Monitoring & Research Centre, as quoted by ANI said, "Epicenter of the earthquake lies at Bhulbhule of Lamjung District, where it occurred around 5:42 NPT. It has been recorded at 5.8 magnitude." 

No loss of lives has been reported yet, further details are awaited.

Soon after tremors in Nepal, an earthquake with 6.7 magnitude rose in southern East Pacific, said USGS. 

Recently,  Assam was hit by two earthquakes back to back. A quake of magnitude 3.5 on the Richter scale was recorded in Assam's Sonitpur on May 5. Earlier, a massive earthquake of 6.4 on the Richter Scale hit Sonitpur area of Assam on April 28, followed by several aftershocks. The  earthquake originated in Assam and tremors were felt in North Bengal, Meghalaya and other parts of the Northeast.
