Both the foreign nationals had left Harare in Zimbabwe and had arrived in Mumbai after receiving the consignment at Addis Ababa.

New Delhi: A large consignment of drugs has been seized and two Zimbabwean nationals have been arrested in the case at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport.

According to officials, the Airport Intelligence Unit (AIU) took this action on the input of DRI. The drug consignment, of 35kg of heroin, is said to be worth around Rs 247 crore.

This is the first case of seizure of such a large quantity of drug consignments at the airport so far. The two arrested Zimbabwean nationals have been identified as a 46-year-old woman and a 27-year-old male passenger. Both have been taken into custody by the AIU.

Both the foreign nationals had left Harare in Zimbabwe and had arrived in Mumbai after receiving the consignment at Addis Ababa. The case has been handed over to AIU by DRI.

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), on the other hand, seized more than 662 kg of ganja from a truck in Gwalior district of Madhya Pradesh, said an official on Tuesday.

Narcotics Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Kumar said that acting on the information received from an informer, the NCB team stopped the truck on Gwalior-Agra route on Monday-Tuesday night and seized 662.5 kg of ganja. However, the driver and the helper of the truck jumped out of the vehicle and fled.

Kumar had said that the drug was concealed in 135 packets in a specially designed space behind the driver's cabin. He said that a fake number plate was also found in the truck during the search.

A case has been registered against the accused under NDPS act and the search for the accused is underway, Kumar added.
