WATCH | ITBP Team Rescues People Stuck In Cable Car On India’s Highest Vertical Ropeway

Deoghar ropeway accident: Two women died and eight sustained injuries when cable cars collided on the ropeway on Sunday. An operation is on to rescue 40 people stuck in the suspended cabins.

New Delhi: Eight persons have been rescued after several cable cars collided with each other on a ropeway on Trikut Hills in Jharkhand’s Deoghar district on Sunday, the Indo-Tibetian Border Police said. 

Sharing a one-minute video on Twitter, ITBP spokesperson Vivek Kumar Pandey said, “Rescue operations underway by Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) with sister organisations at Trikut Ropeway, Deoghar. 8 rescued so far.”

Two women died in the mishap while eight persons sustained injuries in the accident, as per ABP News sources. The rescue operation started by ITBP and others to bring down 40 people stuck in the cable cars hanging from the ropeway is still on. 

An official had earlier said prima facie the collision of cable cars appeared to have occured due to some technical fault, adding that the exact cause is yet to be ascertained, news agency PTI reported. 

Initialay, a team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was deployed for the rescue operations, Deoghar Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri had said, adding that the local villagers were also assisting the team. 

Meanwhile, Godda MP Nishikant Dubey said Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Jharkhand Chief Secretary Sukhdeo Singh have been briefed about the mishap.

As per Jharkhand Tourism, the Trikut ropeway is India's highest vertical ropeway with a maximum lens angle of 44 degrees. The ropeway, situated around 20 km from Baba Baidyanath Temple, is around 766 metres long, while the hill is 392 metres high.

The ripeway has 25 cabins in all, each with a seating capacity of four.
