Delhi High Court Sets Aside Suspension Of 7 BJP MLAs From Delhi Assembly
The seven MLAs were suspended for repeatedly interrupting Delhi LG VK Saxena multiple times during his Assembly address on February 15
The Delhi High Court on Wednesday set aside suspension of seven Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs from the remainder of the Budget session of the Delhi Assembly. The seven MLAs were suspended for repeatedly interrupting Delhi LG VK Saxena multiple times during his Assembly address on February 15 while he was highlighting the achievements of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government.
The seven BJP MLAs Mohan Singh Bisht, Ajay Mahawar, O P Sharma, Abhay Verma, Anil Bajpai, Jitender Mahajan and Vijender Gupta - approached the high court challenging their indefinite suspension from the Assembly for interrupting the Lieutenant Governor's address.
In February, the seven MLAs had told the Delhi High Court that the Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena had accepted their letter of apology. They also apprised the court that they will meet the Speaker of Delhi Legislative Assembly today.
Senior Advocate Kirti Uppal appearing for the BJP MLAs had told the court that the Delhi LG has accepted the apology letter by the suspended MLAs and they also mailed the copy of the letter to the Speaker of Delhi Assembly.
The counsel appearing for Delhi Assembly told the court that the MLA's should meet the Speaker.
However, the counsel appearing for MLAs accused AAP of politicising the issue by comparing it to Raghav Chadha's suspension from Lok Sabha. The court then asked the MLAs to meet the Speaker. The judge also remarked that the court is not a political platform and will only decide on the question of law.
The seven BJP MLAs were suspended after they repeatedly interrupted the LG's address to the legislative assembly that prompted action against them.
