Could The Kawasaki Ninja 125 And Z125 Launch In India?

Kawasaki is the only two-wheeler company that doesn’t offer a smaller capacity motorcycle internationally, but that could change soon

Could The Kawasaki Ninja 125 And Z125 Launch In India?

As it goes, it’s all part of Kawasaki’s key expansion plan. The Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer announced two new models, the Ninja 125 and Z125, at last year’s EICMA and said it would show face towards the end of 2018. And the specs of the bikes have now been uncovered by online magazine Bike Social. Here’s what we can expect from the two 125cc bikes from Kawasaki.

Last year, Kawasaki teased these 125’s by posting images containing the silhouettes of the two; however, it turns out those were actually images of the existing Ninja 250SL and Z250SL single-cylinder models. Moreover, it was unclear whether the smaller capacity bikes would share the same platform with their elder siblings. While there’s no official word from Kawasaki, the spec-sheet of the 125cc bikes suggests that they will be heavily based on the 250cc singles.

There are ample similarities between the dimensions of both the 250cc and 125cc range. In terms of length and wheelbase the Ninja 125 and Z125 measure in at 1935mm and 1330mm respectively, same as the 250’s. And it's the same story in terms of height, where the faired Ninja 125, which measure 1075mm, perfectly matches the height of the Ninja 250SL. Likewise, the Z125’s 1015mm matches that of the Z250SL. There’s no difference in width either.

Furthermore, the Ninja 125 and Z125 tip the scale at 146kg (wet), which happens to be just 4kgs lesser than their 250cc siblings. The 125cc, single-cylinder engines produce 15PS of power at 10,000rpm. In comparison, the 250cc single makes 28PS at 9700rpm.

So, would these bikes make it to India? With the recent localisation of the Ninja 300, Kawasaki's future plans for the Indian market seems quite clear. And if we were to speculate, it's possible that Kawasaki introduces a 150cc version of the bikes in the future rather than the 125's, which would go up against the upcoming Aprilia 150cc twins - the RS 150 and the Tuono 150.
