Background

Noticing continuous increase in the number of Coronavirus cases across country and vaccination being the only helpful measure at the moment, the government has finally opened up vaccination against the coronavirus for everyone above the age of 18 years from May 1.

The important decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday where he said that the Government has been working hard for over a year to ensure that maximum numbers of Indians are able to get the vaccine in the shortest possible time.

Meanwhile, several nations including USA and UK have warned citizens to avoid travel to India. The decision was in light of surging case numbers and the emergence of a new Covid-19 variant in India. Britain imposed its strictest travel curbs hours after Prime Minister Boris Johnson called off a trip to New Delhi.
