Coronavirus HIGHLIGHTS: Section 144 Imposed Across Maharashtra From Wednesday For 15 Days

While in Delhi, coronavirus positivity rate rose sharply from 9.43% to 12.44% in a span of 24 hours, Maharashtra, a day after logging the highest 63,294 infections, reported 51,751 fresh Coronavirus positive cases and 258 fatalities on Monday. As per the state health department, Maharashtra's cumulative case tally now stands at 34,58,996. Witnessing the spike in number of Corona cases, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is likely to take call on complete lockdown in Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, DGCI has approved the use of Russian vaccine Sputnik V on Monday. It has been registered in India under the emergency use authorisation procedure.
Govt Not Going For lockdowns In Big Way: FM Nirmala Sitharaman
Amid surging coronavirus cases in India, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday made it clear that the government would not go for lockdowns in a big way and only resort to local containment.
"Even with the second wave, we are very clear that we are not going in for lockdowns in a big way. We don't want to totally arrest the economy. The local level isolation of patients, or households which have people in quarantines are the methods through which the crisis will be handled, the second wave will be handled. There shall not be lockdown," Sitharaman said.

Haryana government has revised the timings of the 'Corona Curfew' for containment of the COVID-19 epidemic in the state from 10 pm to 5 am with immediate effect
Pune Records 10,112 Fresh Covid-19 Cases
Maharashtra's Pune district reported as many as 10,112 new cases, 9,843 recoveries, and 99 deaths in the last 24 hours.

Section 144 Across Maharashtra For Next 15 Days
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray also said that Section 144 (prohibitory orders) of the Criminal Procedure Code will be in force till the "lockdown-like" restrictions are in place.
Maharashtra Curfew: 3 KG Wheat, 2 KG Rice For Poor
Meanwhile, state government will provide three kg wheat and two kg rice free for the next one month to every poor and needy person while the coronavirus-induced restrictions are in place.
