Coronavirus Highlights, 7th May, Friday: Doctors at a leading private facility in Delhi are witnessing a rise in the number of Covid-triggered mucormycisis (fungal infection) cases, according to a statement from the hospital. AIIMS Director Dr Randeep Guleria on Thursday said oxygen saturation levels of 92 or 93 in Covid-19 patients should not be considered critical, but this is a buffer level which indicates that the patient needs medical help on time.

Coronavirus Highlights, 7th May, Friday: Doctors at a leading private facility in Delhi are witnessing a rise in the number of Covid-triggered mucormycisis cases, according to a statement from the hospital.
Mucormycisis is a fungal infection triggered by COVID-19. Black fungus or mucormycosis has been a cause of disease and death of patients in transplants, ICUs and immunodeficient patients since long.
The national capital must get at least 700 tonnes of oxygen everyday, as requested by the Delhi government to meet the needs of the city's COVID-19 patients, the Supreme Court told the centre on Thursday.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the city has been getting roughly half the quantity of oxygen it has been officially allocated, while neighbouring BJP-ruled states like Uttar Pradesh and Haryana have been prioritised.
Kerala on Thursday announced a complete lockdown from May 8 and extended up to May 16 due to surge in covid-19 cases. Strict lockdown-like restrictions are already in place in the southern state reported 42,464 fresh COVID-19 cases, the highest single-day count so far, pushing the tally to 17,86,396, while 63 more patients succumbed to the infection, taking the toll to 5,628, the state government said.

"At the beginning of the pandemic, when our hospital beds were stretched, India sent assistance. Today, we're determined to help India in its hour of need. We do this as friends of India, as members of the Asian Quad and as part of the global community,": US Vice President Kamala Harris said.
"We have announced our full support for suspending patents on Covid-19 vaccines – to help India and other nations vaccinate their people more quickly. India and the United States have the greatest number of COVID-19 cases in the world," she added.
West Bengal logs highest one-day spike of 19,216 Covid-19 cases, 112 more fatalities
Kolkata, May 7 (PTI) West Bengal on Friday registered its highest single-day spike of 19,216 Covid-19 cases, which pushed the tally to 9,54,282, the health department said.
The toll breached the 12000-mark, as 112 more people succumbed to the infection, taking the total number of fatalities to 12,076, the department said in its bulletin.
Accordingly, the number of active cases in the state climbed to 1,24,098.
As many as 17,780 recoveries have been reported in Bengal in the last 24 hours.
Since Thursday, 64,551 samples have been tested in the state, the bulletin added.
