Congress MLAs Convene in Jaipur Following Rajasthan Election Debacle
Newly elected Congress MLAs in Rajasthan are set to convene in Jaipur on Tuesday for a crucial meeting to discuss the party's strategy in the wake of the election results. Rajasthan Congress chief Govind Singh Dotasra has called for a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party at 11 am, addressing the recent developments and planning the party's course of action, news agency PTI reported.
The meeting becomes particularly significant as the BJP emerged victorious in the state elections, securing 115 seats out of the 199 constituencies where elections were held last week. The Congress, hoping to break the pattern of alternating government in the state, secured 69 seats. The election on the Karanpur seat has been postponed due to the unfortunate demise of the Congress candidate.
Speaking about the meeting, Congress spokespersons stated, "This gathering will provide a platform for the newly elected MLAs to share their perspectives and collectively determine the party's response to the current political scenario in Rajasthan."
Supreme Court to Scrutinise Constitutional Validity of Citizenship Act's Section 6A
The Supreme Court is scheduled to begin hearings on December 5 to examine the constitutional validity of section 6A of the Citizenship Act, specifically related to the issue of illegal immigrants in Assam. Section 6A was introduced as a special provision to address citizenship concerns arising from the Assam Accord.
This provision stipulates that individuals arriving in Assam between January 1, 1966, and March 25, 1971, from specified territories, including Bangladesh, must register for citizenship under section 18 of the Citizenship Act. The provision sets March 25, 1971, as the cut-off date for granting citizenship to Bangladeshi migrants in Assam.
The five-judge constitution bench, comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, Justices Surya Kant, M M Sundresh, J B Pardiwala, and Manoj Misra, will preside over the hearings starting Tuesday. The apex court had earlier noted the matter as "In Re: Section 6A of the Citizenship Act, 1955" during a hearing in September.
Kamal Nath To Hold Congress Candidates' Review Meeting in Madhya Pradesh
In the aftermath of the state assembly polls, former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Kamal Nath has called for a comprehensive review meeting with Congress candidates. The meeting, scheduled for 11 am on Tuesday at the state Congress office in Bhopal, aims to analyze the party's performance in the elections and discuss the way forward.
This meeting comes in the wake of the Congress party's suboptimal showing in the recently concluded elections. Kamal Nath is expected to engage with the candidates assembly-wise, seeking feedback and strategizing for the party's future actions.
