Heatwave Alert For Maharashtra's Thane, Raigad, And Mumbai Today
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has raised a heatwave alert for Thane, Raigad districts, and parts of Mumbai, spanning from April 27 to 29, PTI reported. According to IMD scientist Sushma Nair, an anti-cyclonic circulation over Thane, Raigad, and parts of Mumbai will prompt a surge in temperature, with the peak expected on April 27 and 28. This marks the second heatwave alert issued for Mumbai and its environs this month. Earlier, on April 15 and 16, the region experienced scorching weather, with temperatures in Navi Mumbai soaring to 41 degrees Celsius.
The IMD has offered precautionary advice to mitigate the impact of the impending heatwave. People are urged to avoid prolonged exposure to heat, maintain hydration by drinking sufficient water, opt for light-coloured, loose cotton clothing, cover the head with a wet cloth, hat, or umbrella when outdoors during peak heat hours, and schedule strenuous activities for cooler times of the day.

Sunita Kejriwal, wife of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, is set to bolster the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Atishi, a senior AAP leader and minister in the Delhi government, announced on Friday that Sunita Kejriwal will embark on her campaign with a roadshow in the East Delhi constituency on Saturday. Atishi revealed that Sunita Kejriwal will traverse Delhi, Punjab, Gujarat, and Haryana in her campaign efforts. This move comes as Sunita Kejriwal steps into a more prominent role to invigorate AAP's campaigning, which has been affected by Arvind Kejriwal's judicial custody extension until May 7 in a money laundering case. Atishi highlighted Sunita Kejriwal's upcoming roadshows in East Delhi on Saturday and West Delhi on Sunday as part of her campaign initiatives.

On the prevailing heat wave conditions in Odisha, weather scientist Umashankar Dash, Regional Meteorological Centre, said “Due to continuous dry spells and northwesterly and westerly dry winds into the state, we are expecting the heatwave to continue for the next few days. We have also issued red alerts for 10 districts and twin cities (Bhubaneswar and Cuttack). As per the data, this year’s spell of continuous heatwave (15 days) is the longest since 2010", reported PTI.
