Around 400 BJP Workers Have Fled Bengal & Entered Assam Out Of Fear: Minister Himanta Sarma

Launching a blistering attack on Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee, Sarma said the former “must stop this ugly dance of demonocracy” and added “Bengal deserves better”

Guwahati: Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said around 300 to 400 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) BJP workers entered Assam fleeing their homes in West Bengal amid the violence post the declaration of assembly elections’ results.

Launching a blistering attack on Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee, Sarma said the former “must stop this ugly dance of demonocracy” and added “Bengal deserves better”

“In a sad development 300-400 @BJP4Bengal karyakartas and family members have crossed over to Dhubri in Assam after confronted with brazen persecution & violence. We’re giving shelter & food. @MamataOfficial Didi must stop this ugly dance of demonocracy! Bengal deserves better,” he tweeted.

Hours after the West Bengal Assembly elections’ results were declared on Sunday, political violence erupted across the state with at least eight people reportedly killed.

The BJP has claimed that six of its workers were among those killed and accused the TMC of attacking and vandalising several of its offices, including one in Nandigram where the party’s candidate Suvendu Adhikari defeated Banerjee.

The BJP has announced to hold a nationwide dharna on May 5 against the widespread violence unleashed allegedly by the TMC workers post the results of the assembly elections. The BJP said this protest will be held following all Covid-19 protocols across all organisational mandals of the party.
