Bengaluru Records High Of 55% Positivity Rate As Covid-19 Situation Gets Grim In India's IT Capital

There was, however, some improvement on Tuesday as compared to a day earlier with the positivity rate reporting to be 33%. Earlier on Monday, the Covid-19 positivity rate in the country’s IT capital touched an all-time high of 55% and the active cases crossed the three-lakh mark.

Bengaluru: With the coronavirus infections rising rapidly and showing no abating signs, Karnataka capital Bengaluru reported 20,870 Covid-positive cases and 132 deaths out of the state’s total count of 44,632 fresh infections and an all-time high of 292 deaths. Earlier on Monday, the Covid-19 positivity rate in the country’s IT capital touched an all-time high of 55% and the active cases crossed the three-lakh mark.

There was, however, some improvement on Tuesday as compared to a day earlier with the positivity rate reporting to be 33%. 

This came as several small hospitals reported oxygen shortage and the major hospitals turned away critical patients due to lack of beds.

There are over four lakh active cases in Karnataka whereas over 12 lakh people have been discharged so far.

The average of 20,000 positive cases per day in Bengaluru comes at a time when the authorities have decided to reduce abandon random testing to focus on qualitative testing.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Wednesday said the decision on whether to enforce complete or partial lockdown in the state will be taken only after a directive from the Centre.
