Amit Shah Unveils Late Arun Jaitley's Statue At Feroz Shah Kotla Amid Strong Opposition From Bishan Singh Bedi
Jaitley was president of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) for 14 years, from 1999 to 2013, before he opted out of cricket administration due to the 2014 general elections.
A six-foot tall statue of late Arun Jaitley was installed inside the Arun Jaitley Stadium at the Feroz Shah Kotla ground on the occasion of his 68th birth anniversary on December 28. Union Home Minister Amit Shah unveiled the statue in the presence of Arun Jaitley's family, Union Ministers Hardeep Singh Puri and Anurag Thakur, Indian cricket board president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah, and former India and Delhi captains Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir.
Jaitley was president of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) for 14 years, from 1999 to 2013, before he opted out of cricket administration due to the 2014 general elections that were coming up at the time. Presently, DDCA is headed by his son Rohan, 31, who was elected president unopposed on October 17.
Bishan Singh Bedi Opposes Statue Installation Of Late Arun Jaitley
The installation of the statue has come amid the strong opposition from former India and Delhi captain Bishan Singh Bedi. Bishan Singh Bedi last week quit the primary membership of DDCA and even wrote a letter to the DDC trust citing disagreement with installing a statue of late Arun Jaitley at Feroz Shah Kotla ground.
Bishan Bedi said that when Jaitley was the DDCA President he did not agree with the choices he made but after Jaitley passed away he did not expect the disagreement to be carried on the next generation.
