Andhra HC Orders Ex-BJP State Chief Lakshminarayana To Pay Rs 1 Cr Compensation In Domestic Violence Case
An additional chief metropolitan court in Vijayawada, while hearing the petition filed by his daughter-in-law Srilakshmi Keerti, ruled in her favour.
Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh High court has directed former state BJP chief Kanna Lakshminarayana, his wife and son to pay a compensation of Rs 1 crore to his daughter-in-law in a domestic violence case.

Kanna Nagaraju, son of Kanna Lakshminarayana, had a love marriage on May 10, 2006 to Srilakshmi Keerti. They had a daughter in 2013. However, later Keerti filed a domestic abuse complaint against her husband and in-laws.
According to the petitioner, her mother-in-law allegedly taunted her and refused to let her parents meet her. Nagaraju, she claimed, also had an extramarital affair with another woman and kept harassing her. On March 29, 2015, when she confronted her husband on the issue, he allagedly assaulted her.
Keerti had pleaded for protection for herself and her daughter, accommodation and medical expenses through legal proceedings under the Domestic Violence Act.
Hearing her plea, the Andhra Pradesh high court ordered the former minister, his wife Kanna Vijayalakshmi and their son Kanna Nagaraju to provide Keerti and her daughter accommodation in their house and in case of failure, they would have to pay Rs 50,000 to her per month.The magistrate further ordered the minister and his family to pay Keerti Rs 50,000 for her daughter's treatment.
The court ordered the respondents to pay the amounts in three months and stated that if they failed to do so within the stipulated time, they would be charged an interest of 12%.
