Union home minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Amit Shah is on a two-day visit to West Bengal to hold mega rallies and take stock of party's political situation as the state is scheduled to go to polls next year.

Union home minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Amit Shah paid floral tributes to Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore at Rabindra Bhawan in Shanti Niketan after landing in Birbhum from Kolkata on Sunday. Shah is on a two-day visit to West Bengal to hold mega rallies and take stock of party's political situation as the state is scheduled to go to polls next year. The BJP is investing unprecedented amounts of time and resources in the state months ahead of the state assembly polls in a bid to replace the ruling Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress. Major Highlights From Shah's Day-2 Bengal Visit

Senior BJP leader Amit Shah paid tributes to one of India's greatest thinkers, Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, at Rabindra Bhawan in Shantiniketan. "Gurudev's contribution to India's freedom movement will forever be remembered and his thoughts will continue to inspire our generations to come," Shah said.
Amit Shah also visited the iconic Sangeet Bhawan of Visva Bharati University, Shantiniketan. Amid tight security, the home minister visited the central university for more than an hour-and-a-half and attended several cultural programmes. Sharing his experience during the visit, Shah in a Twitter post said "The aura of Gurudev Tagore is still very much here. We are committed to fulfill Gurudev Tagore’s dream and restore the lost glory of Bengal." Through Viswa Bharati And Shanti Niketan Gurudev protected the Indian culture, knowledge, and literature. He was the only one who wrote the National Anthem for 2 countries. Gurudev's ideology and heritage is here at Shanti Niketan and one can understand what vision he held for India: Amit Shah at Visva Bharati University. Shah, along with other party leaders Mukul Roy and Dilip Ghosh had lunch at the residence of a Baul singer at Bolpur in Birbhum district. Later, Shah held a mega roadshow in Bolpur starting from Hanuman Mandir stadium road to Bolpur Circle in Birbhum of West Bengal.
The Home Minister said that he had never witnessed such great roadshow in his entire life. Shah said that such huge participation shows that the people of Bengal want a change from Mamata Didi and from the infiltration of people from Bangladesh. As per the sources, the Union Minister will conclude his two-day visit after a press conference in Mohor Kutir Resort in the evening on Sunday. Besides the TMC members, lawmakers, two CPI(M) MLAs and one each of the CPI and the Congress joined the BJP camp on Saturday. Hitting out at the Mamata Banerjee government over continued political violence in West Bengal, Union Home Minister Amit Shah Saturday claimed there will be more desertions to the BJP from the TMC and that the West Bengal chief minister will be be left alone in her party by the time elections arrive. Taking a swipe at the TMC over a string of desertions ahead of the assembly elections, the BJP leader said, "By the time elections arrive, Mamata Banerjee will be left alone in her party."
