ABP-CVoter Opinion Poll: Clean Sweep For AAP In Delhi, Kejriwal Remains First Choice As CM

New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party, which is seeking a re-election in Delhi this year, looks set to completely sweep the upcoming assembly polls, crushing both the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Indian National Congress by a huge margin of seats and vote share, the ABP News-C Voter opinion poll has predicted. In what may be the BJP's third setback in a row after the Maharashtra and Jharkhand rout, the Aam Aadmi Party looks set to clinch 59 seats in the 70-seat assembly, while the BJP is likely to slump at 8 seats. The Congress party is likely to save some face this time with three seats, as against its previous zero, the findings of the survey indicated. As far as the vote share is concerned, the AAP is likely to get a whopping 53 per cent of votes, while the BJP is expected to pull 26 per cent of votes. The Congress is expected to get only 5 per cent of the votes. ABP News along with C Voter conducted a survey to gauge the mood of voters ahead of the decisive polls in the national capital.  The survey was conducted in the first week of January and the sample size was 13,076. Most Preferred CM Candidate as per the survey: Brand Kejriwal is working and he remains the first choice as the chief minister of Delhi, according to the survey conducted by ABP News-C Voter.  Not only that, but the survey also says that Kejriwal’s approval rating stands way higher than Dr. Harsh Vardhan (11%) of the BJP, with a staggering 70 per cent. AAP has been ruling the city of Delhi for the past five years and 32.7% of the respondents believe that the Kejriwal-led party is in a better position to solve the problems of the city. Surprisingly, 36% do not know who has the solution to their woes. Delhiites prefer Modi as PM: survey The survey has revealed that 62% of the respondents prefer PM Narendra Modi to continue as the prime minister while 12% prefer Kejriwal and 8% preferred Rahul Gandhi as the PM. 67% of the surveyed lot believe AAP will win the upcoming elections in the national capital. On the other hand, 19% of the respondents have chosen BJP while mere 3% are in favour of the Congress party. Election dates: Earlier in the day, the Election Commission announced that election will be held in Delhi on February 8 and counting of votes will be done of February 11. A total of 1.46 crore voters can exercise their franchise according to the final electoral list for Delhi published on Monday. What happened in the 2015 polls? The AAP had clinched 67 seats recording a massive win in 2015 assembly polls, while the BJP could get only three seats despite the ‘Modi wave’ prevalent at that time. The Congress failed to win even a single seat. Issues dominating the elections: Delhi will be witnessing a three-sided electoral battle between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party, BJP and the Congress. Since, Delhi has emerged the hotbed of all the national issues of late, a host of national as well as local ones will dominate the polls. While, the BJP has accused the AAP and Congress parties of raising anarchy in the national capital referring to the anti-CAA protests,  the Congress has announced that if voted to power it would not allow the CAA, the NPR and the NRC in Delhi. Among the several local key issues as projected by the AAP, regularisation of illegal colonies, women's security and building concrete houses for slum dwellers and parking space, will be predominant. It will fight this election in collaboration with election strategist Prashant Kishor's consultancy firm I-PAC. The Congress is also contesting on all 70 assembly seats in the upcoming elections and will not enter any alliance with any other party, despite the previous debacle where it could not get even a single seat. AAP at work: In the tailing months of its tenure, the AAP government sought to fulfil pending pre-poll promises in 2019 and made a string of announcements like free-bus rides for women, no electricity charges of up to 200 units, free WiFi, free pilgrimage for senior citizens and waiver of development charges for new water and sewer connections.
