Earlier today, a team of CBI officials reached the residence of TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee in Kolkata to summon his wife Rujira Banerjee to join the probe in connection with an ongoing investigation into an alleged coal smuggling case.

Reacting to the central agency’s action, Banerjee took to Twitter and wrote, “At 2pm today, the CBI served a notice in the name of my wife. We have full faith in the law of the land. However, if they think they can use these ploys to intimidate us, they are mistaken. We are not the ones who would ever be cowed down.”

A CBI source said that some suspicious bank transactions related to the coal scam is related to Abhishek's wife Rujira. That is why the CBI team wants to question Abhishek's wife Rujira. However, reports suggest that CBI did not find anbody in the house.

This is the first time that the CBI has landed at Abhishek Banerjee’s residence in the coal smuggling case. The central investigating agency earlier on Friday raided 13 locations in four districts in connection with the coal theft case.

The probe is on in full swing months before West Bengal Assembly elections. It is to be noted that Abhishek Banerjee is one of the most discussed politicians considering the upcoming Bengal assembly elections. BJP has been alleging Mamata Banerjee of dynasty politics and has been claiming that didi is pitching her nephew Abhishek Banerjee as the next West Bengal Chief Minister.
