Apart from updated aesthetics, the C-Class facelift will get new petrol and diesel engines

2018 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Facelift

Mercedes-Benz is all set to launch the 2018 C-Class facelift in India today. It is expected to be priced at par with the outgoing model, which was priced from 39.90 lakh to Rs 45.40 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Aesthetically, the new C-Class completely resembles the outgoing model save for some minor updates. It features a new diamond studded single-slat grille which is flanked by updated LED headlamps. Other changes include updated front and rear bumpers and refreshed LED taillamps. Unlike the outgoing model, which was available with 16- and 17-inch alloys (depending on the variant), the new C-Class is likely to get 18-inch units as well.

On the inside as well the changes are easy to miss. The basic cabin layout remains unchanged, carrying forward the two-tube analogue instrument cluster and a 7-inch infotainment screen with Audio 20 multimedia system as standard.

However, there are multiple display options to choose from, including a 10.25-inch screen for the central infotainment and a 12.3-inch digital display (instrument cluster) for the driver that features three display styles: Classic, Sport and Progressive.

Other features available on the C-Class facelift include a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, agility control and an optional smartphone integration package that offers Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and wireless charging for smartphones. For safety, the new C-Class continues to come with seven airbags, adaptive braking, attention assist and active parking assist with a camera, like the outgoing model.

Apart from the updated design and features, the new C-Class is now powered by a new set of BSVI-compliant petrol and diesel engines. The C 200 is powered by the 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that makes 184PS/280Nm instead of the older 2.0-litre (184PS/300Nm) unit. The C 220 d, on the other hand, gets a new 2.0-litre (194PS/440Nm) diesel engine that makes 24PS more than the older 2.0-litre unit.

However, it is not yet confirmed which trims will make it to India as this time the C-Class is also expected to be available in C 300 and C 300 d (replacing the C 250 d) trims. While the C 300 is powered by a new 2.0-litre petrol engine that makes 258PS/370Nm, the C 300 d, gets a more powerful iteration of the same 2.0-litre diesel engine that does duty on the C 200 d. Here, it generates 245PS/500Nm. All these engines are mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission.
