Vinayak Damodar Savarkar Death Anniversary: 6 Quotes By The Politician That Inspire Us Even Today

Every year on February 26, India commemorates the death anniversary of V D Savarkar, who passed away on this day in the year 1966.

Vinayak Damodar Savarkar was an Indian politician, activist, and writer who developed the Hindu nationalist political ideology of 'Hindutva' while imprisoned at Ratnagiri in 1922. He was a leading figure in the Hindu Mahasabha and started using the honorific prefix 'Veer' when he wrote his autobiography. Savarkar, an atheist, played a key role in popularising the term 'Hindutva' within the Hindu Mahasabha, aiming to establish a collective 'Hindu' identity as the core essence of Bharat (India).

Every year on February 26, India commemorates the death anniversary of this great leader, who passed away on this day in the year 1966. On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to him stating that India will always remember his steadfast commitment to the nation's freedom and unity.

In a post on X, Modi said, "Tributes to Veer Savarkar on his Punya Tithi. India will forever remember his valiant spirit and unwavering dedication to our nation's freedom and integrity. His contributions inspire us to strive for the development and prosperity of our country."
