Annually, the 18th of April is designated 'World Heritage Day' to promote culture and heritage conservation. India, with its old and lively culture, boasts some great museums that assemble and showcase the rich tradition of this ancient land. Museums like the old artefacts, royal treasures and colonial records, these places speak about their glorious past but also stand tall as symbols of cultural pride. 

Some of these monuments are situated within UNESCO's World Heritage Sites and serve not only as museums but also as heritage sites themselves.

The National Museum, located in the capital of India, is one of the biggest cultural institutions in the country. It showcases priceless relics from the Indus Valley Civilisation to the Mughal masters. This museum plays an important role in preserving several diverse and ancient heritages of India.

Located in Kolkata is the Indian Museum, the oldest museum in Asia, build in 1814. It has an incomparable collection ranging from archaeological finds and fossils to Egyptian mummies.
