Students at Anjuman-e-Islam school practice Yoga to help with Ramzan fasting

Ahmedabad: Ahead of World Yoga Day, students of Anjuman-e-Islam have been practicing Yoga for thirty minutes every day, asserting that it is not associated to any religion and should be practiced by everyone, adding that it helps them to keep up with following Roza (fasting) during Ramzan. "We all know that Yoga has several benefits. Yoga is not associated to any religion and can be practised by everyone. Yoga helps us to get through the day in a healthy fashion. We are not supposed to drink water nor eat anything during Ramzan and practicing this helps us with the pressure," Nameera, a student from the school told ANI here. Mallick Husseinbai, the Physical Health instructor of the school asserted that the students were greatly benefitting from practicing Yoga adding that the children were given to chant or nor chant the 'omkar' mantra if they wanted to. International Yoga Day will be celebrated for the second time since its inception on June 21st. Yoga Day, is celebrated annually on June 21 and was declared to be internationally recognized by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on December 11, 2014. Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his UN Address suggested the date of June 21, as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares special significance in many parts of the world. ""Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition. This tradition is 5000 years old. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help us deal with climate change. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day." The Prime Minister said.
