Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town... Transport Canada Clears His Flight, Trackers Are Live
Transport Canada has officially cleared Santa Claus for his annual Christmas Eve journey worldwide. The symbolic gesture allows Santa to use Canadian airspace.
Happy Christmas: Santa Claus is on his way to children waiting for him across the world, with Transport Canada giving the official clearance to his annual Christmas Eve journey. Canada’s new Transport Minister Anita Anand shared the news in a YouTube video. In fact, Transport Canada even issued a press release, confirming the official announcement.
"Today, the Minister of Transport and Internal Trade, the Honourable Anita Anand, officially cleared Santa for his annual flight around the world," the press release said, adding: "The Minister first made sure that all the conditions were ideal for a successful trip. With the holiday season right around the corner, the Minister also extended her best wishes."
The video announcement came with a touch of festive humour as it showed the minister’s assistant reminding Anand about her responsibility to give a green light to Santa's travel. “Don’t forget, we need your urgent approval to clear Santa’s flight. He’s scheduled to take off soon; it’s one of your new responsibilities as Minister of Transport,” he tells Anand, who replies: “I’ve been so looking forward to doing this. Is Santa well-rested and ready to fly?”
Anand even met Santa, virtually, for the first time since becoming the minister, and told him that she has cleared his flight. Santa too wished her a Merry Christmas, signing off with his signature 'ho ho ho'.

Annual Christmas Tradition
For the uninitiated, it's an annual tradition for Transport Canada to officially clear Santa's trip.
Santa is believed to live in North Pole, which is located in the Arctic Ocean and does not come under the geographical jurisdiction of any country. At a distance of 508 miles, the Canadian territory of Nunavut is the closest inhabited place.
In a symbolic gesture made in festive spirit, Transport Canada gives a clearance to Santa's flight to use the Canadian airspace.
In 2023, the announcement was quite playful as then transport minister Pablo Rodriguez okayed Santa’s emissions-free eco-friendly sleigh. The 2022 announcement carried thrill as Justin Trudeau went on a ‘Secret Mission’ with Omar Alghabra to authorise Santa’s legendary journey.
The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) even runs a Santa tracker from December 24 and it's is now live. Google too runs a Santa tracker, and that's live too.
