Kitchen Hacks: Here's How You Can Make Bihar's Traditional Sweet 'Makuti' Using Moong Dal

Makuti Dessert Recipe: If you feel like eating sweets, you can try Bihar's famous Makuti dessert. It is very delicious and nutritious at the same time.

Makuti Recipe: From Litti Chokha to Thekua, there are many dishes of Bihar that have now become famous not only throughout India but also abroad. One such traditional sweet of Bihar is Makuti.

It is very delicious to eat and beneficial for health. The special thing about this dish is that it is made from moong dal and rice. Bihar's famous Makuti is a good option for dessert. If you have guests coming to your house and don't know what to make, try making this quick recipe.

It is quite easy to make and doesn't need any special ingredients. Whenever you crave something sweet, then also you can try the famous Makuti. 

Ingredients for making Makuti 

⦁ 1 litre of milk 
⦁ 3 tbsp moong dal
⦁ 1.5 tbsp rice
⦁ 100 g khoya  
⦁ 100 g sugar 
⦁ 8-10 chopped  almonds 
⦁ 8-10 cashew nuts chopped  
⦁ 8-100 pistachios
⦁ 4-5 powdered cardamom
⦁ 20-25 saffron threads 

Makuti Recipe 

1- First wash the moong dal and rice, soak them in water for an hour. 
2- When moong dal and rice are done, remove them from water and put them in the cooker, and cook until there's a whistle.
3- Now slow down the gas and let it cook for 5 minutes and then turn off the gas. 
4- Remove the lid from the cooker and mash the dal-rice well.
5- Now add 1 litre of milk to a pan and keep it for boiling. 
6- Put the saffron threads in a teaspoon of milk and soak them. 
7- After boiling the milk, cook it till it becomes slightly thicker.
8- Now add mashed dal-rice and cook the milk on a low flame to thicken. 
9- Now mash khoya in it and mix the saffron with milk. Adding khoya is not necessary.
10- Now let the milk thicken. It will take about 15 more minutes. 
11- When the milk thickens, add sugar and cardamom.
12 - Turn off the gas after cooking for 2-3 minutes and place the Makuti in a bowl.
13- Now add cashew nuts, almonds, pistachios and garnish.
14- You can also eat it hot if you want, otherwise keep it in the refrigerator for a while to let it cool down.
15- If you are not using khoya to make Makuti, you can increase the amount of milk.
