India Logs 7,081 Fresh Covid-19 Cases, Recovery Rate Highest Since March 2020
The country's daily positivity rate on Sunday stood at 0.58 per cent which is less than 2 per cent for the last 76 days
New Delhi: India reported 7,081 fresh Covid-19 cases and 264 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to the ministry of health and family welfare on Sunday.
The active caseload currently stands at 83,913, lowest in 570 days. The country's daily positivity rate on Sunday stood at 0.58 per cent which is less than 2 per cent for the last 76 days. On the other hand, the weekly positivity rate was at 0.61 per cent which has been less than 1per cent for the last 35 days. More than 12 lakh samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), the active cases in the country account for less than 1 per cent of total cases, currently at 0.24 per cent which is the lowest since March last year.
Covid vaccination coverage
The health ministry said, "India's COVID-19 vaccination coverage has crossed 137 crore landmark milestone (137,37,66,189) today. More than 69 lakh (69,21,097) vaccine doses have been administered till 7 pm today. The daily vaccination tally is expected to increase with the compilation of the final reports for the day by late tonight."
Omicron surge in India
Omicron cases in the country rose to 143 on Saturday after Karnataka and Kerala reported six and four cases respectively, while eight more persons in Maharashtra tested positive for the Coronavirus variant.
Additionally, in Telangana, the number of Omicron cases rose to 20 with 12 more people testing positive for the new coronavirus variant on Saturday, news agency PTI reported.
According to central and state officials, omicron cases have been detected in 11 states and union territories -- Maharashtra (48), Delhi (22), Rajasthan (17) and Karnataka (14), Telangana (20), Gujarat (7), Kerala (11), Andhra Pradesh (1), Chandigarh (1), Tamil Nadu (1) and West Bengal (1).
