Varun Dhawan Opens Up About Battling Vestibular Hypofunction: 'I Didn’t Know What Had Happened To Me'

Actor Varun Dhawan recently opened up about being diagnosed with vestibular hypofunction - a disorder that affects the balance of an individual.

New Delhi: Actor Varun Dhawan, who is currently busy promoting his upcoming film 'Bhediya', recently opened up about being diagnosed with vestibular hypofunction - a disorder that affects the balance of an individual.

While speaking at India Today Conclave, Varun revealed that he shut down after being diagnosed with the disorder. "Recently, I just shut down. I didn’t know what had happened to me. I had this thing called vestibular hypofunction, (where) basically your balance goes off. But I just pushed myself so hard. We are just running in this race, nobody is asking why. I think there is a greater purpose (why) we are all here. I am trying to find mine, and hopefully, people will find theirs,” Varun said at the conclave.

The actor also said that he pushed himself hard after the Covid-19 pandemic. "The minute we opened doors, don’t you think we went back to the same rat race? How many people here can say that they have changed? I see people working even harder! In fact, I started pushing so much harder (with) my film JugJugg Jeeyo, it felt like I was running for an election. I don’t know why, but I put so much pressure on myself," he added.

What is Vestibular Hypofunction
Vestibular Hypofunction is a disorder that affects the balance of a person. It happens when the inner ear part of your balance system fails to work properly. There is a vestibular system in each inner ear that works with one’s eyes and muscles to keep them balanced. When it doesn’t work properly, it sends error messages to the brain and a person may feel uneasy or dizzy.

On the work front, Varun will be seen next in ‘Bhediya’ also starring Kriti Sanon, Deepak Dobriyal and Abhishek Banerjee among others, is releasing in cinemas Pan-India in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil in 2D and 3D on November 25.
