‘They Have Too Much To Lose’: Naseeruddin Shah On The Khans Of Bollywood. Calls The Kashmir Files 'Fictionalised'
Naseeruddin Shah was recently questioned about the three Khans of Bollywood and their tendency to remain silent when it comes to the political issues and confronting the nation.
New Delhi: As a result of BJP spokesman Nupur Sharma's recent remarks on Prophet Muhammad, Naseeruddin Shah has expressed his displeasure with the film industry's lack of response to the worldwide issue. The actor was recently questioned about the three Khans of Bollywood and their tendency to remain silent when it comes to the political issues confronting the nation.
In an interview with NDTV, when asked whether the Khans, Shah Rukh, Salman, and Saif, could open out about their opinions on the current situation, Shah said that he could not speak for these Bollywood stars.
He said, "I cannot speak for them. I am not in the position they are in. I feel they think they would be risking too much. But then, I don’t know how they explain to their own conscience about it. But I think they are in a position where they have too much to lose."
He also complimented Shah Rukh on how gracefully he dealt with the scrutiny of the media the previous year when his son Aryan was imprisoned in connection with a case involving narcotics.
When asked for his opinion on the manner in which the film business was trying to curry favour with the government, Shah said that they wanted to be 'on the winning side.'
The Kashmir Files by Vivek Agnihotri was also mentioned by the actor in the same interview. In his words, the government is propagating an "almost fictionalised version of the suffering of Kashmiri Hindus." He said, "it is propaganda and people are willingly participating in it. I fear there will be more such pseudo-patriotic films (in future)."
In response to his statements, Shah got a range of responses on Twitter. In light of Naseer's comments, what are your reactions?
