Udaan Actor Kavita Chaudhary Passes Away At 67

Kavita Chaudhary, the acclaimed actress who gained fame for her role as IPS officer Kalyani Singh in the widely popular television series 'Udaan' on Doordarshan, passed away due to heart attack.

New Delhi: Kavita Chaudhary, the acclaimed actress who gained fame for her role as IPS officer Kalyani Singh in the widely popular television series 'Udaan' on Doordarshan, passed away due to heart attack on Thursday. She was 67. 

The news of Kavita Chaudhary's demise was confirmed by fellow actor Anang Desai, who was her batchmate at the National School of Drama. Kavita Chaudhary's nephew, Ajay Sayal, told ABP News that she had been admitted to Parvati Devi Hospital in Amritsar for the past three to four days, where she was undergoing medical treatment.

The actress, who had been battling cancer for the last few years, had been receiving ongoing medical care during this period. She took her last breath at 8:30 PM on Thursday in the hospital.

Ajay Sayal further informed ABP News that Kavita Chaudhary's last rites are being performed in Amritsar. 

About Kavita Chaudhary
Kavita Chaudhary is best known for her portrayal of IPS officer Kalyani Singh in the Doordarshan television series Udaan. She is also known for her appearances in very popular Surf detergent commercials in the late 1980s. Kavita played 'Lalitaji' in the commercial - a housewife who always made the right choice when it came to spending money.

Chaudhary was born in Kolkata. She is the younger sister of police officer Kanchan Chaudhary Bhattacharya, who served as an inspiration for her character in Udaan. Kanchan was only the second woman IPS officer after Kiran Bedi and the first woman to become DGP of a state. She died in 2019.

Chaudhary began her acting career in the early 1980s.

Udaan
In 1989, Chaudhary landed the lead role of Kalyani Singh in 'Udaan'. The serial was a major success, and Chaudhary's performance was praised by critics and audiences alike. Udaan is considered to be one of the most iconic television shows in Indian history, and it helped to establish Chaudhary as a household name at that time.

Udaan was based on Kalyani Singh's (Kavita Chaudhary) journey to become a police officer. Vikram Gokhale played her father. He died in 2022.

After the success of Udaan, Chaudhary appeared in a number of other television shows and films, including 'Your Honour' and 'IPS Diaries'.
