SC dismisses plea against Aamir for 'misusing' national emblem

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a petition by NGO Arrive Safe Society seeking action against Bollywood star Aamir Khan for allegedly misusing the national emblem in his programme "Satyamev Jayate". Dismissing the plea, the bench headed by Chief Justice T.S. Thakur said that there was no merit in it. As Chandigarh resident Harman S. Sidhu, representing the NGO, told the court of alleged misuse of the national emblem by the actor, the bench said that if he had any specific grievance, then he can go to police. As Sidhu addressed the court on his plea, the bench asked him: "Who are you? What are you doing for your livelihood?" When the he told the court that he was software engineer, the bench told him: "Why don't you go to police"? The NGO had challenged the November 3, 2015 order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court which had while dismissing the plea said: "The issue raised is with regard to improper use of national emblem. Such use is already prohibited under the law. If any individual has improperly used the national emblem, it will be open for the petitioner to initiate appropriate action against him/her in accordance with law."
